Pikas
Inspired by the Spirit of the Pika
At Pika FilmsTM our name is inspired by the spirited American Pika, a small yet remarkable mammal found high in the alpine worlds of the western United States and Canada. In Washington State, pikas can be found in the talus fields and on the rocky slopes of the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges, often near alpine meadows, where they gather the vegetation they need to survive. The American Pika embodies many of the qualities we admire and strive to reflect in our work with our clients.
Fun Facts! Many people believe that the pika is part of the rodentia family, which includes species such as mice, rats, squirrels, beavers, and porcupines. American Pikas, however, are the smallest members of the lagomorph family, which also includes rabbits and hares. Unlike rodents, which are usually omnivores, lagomorphs are herbivores, feeding mostly on grasses and other vegetation.
Look to the web and you will find more than one pronunciation for pika. Here at Pika Films, we pronounce pika as PY-kuh (think pie), not PEE-kuh.

Endangered and Precious
The pika is also a symbol of the urgent need for environmental conservation. As their alpine habitats shrink due to global warming, pikas face increasing threats to their survival. Each year we contribute a percentage of our profits to organizations dedicated to preserving pika habitats and studying these incredible creatures.
