I played the violin through my first year in college when I realized that my passion for playing the violin wasn’t strong enough to carry me through the rigorous hours of practice required to become the kind of musician I admired. I pivoted to explore other paths, including dance, photography, and the Spanish language, including a life-changing stay of several months in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico.
I graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in English Composition and then went on to the Evergreen State College, where I earned a degree in Secondary Education, a combination that prepared me well for a career in technical education and writing.
For almost 30 years I dedicated myself to the field of technical and marketing communications, working in high-tech manufacturing industries, such as digital automotive and weather instrumentation, bar code hardware and software, semi-conductor test and manufacturing, and fluorescent microscopy. These experiences honed my skills in conveying complex ideas clearly and effectively, a foundation that now enriches my stories and films.
As an adult, I’ve always enjoyed capturing images on my various cameras, first on film and then in pixels. Several years ago I took an introduction to digital media course and, after creating my first video, I was hooked. The combination of imagery and narrative resonated deeply within me, eventually leading me to start my own business, Pika Communications LLC. Today I channel my lifelong love of beautiful images and stories into Pika Films, where client stories meet up with my passion for videography and together we create remarkable films.
